Principle 8: The Power of Transformation
Given today’s complexity, almost every organisation is dealing with transformation processes to some degree. These processes are neither linear nor predictable. The principle of the power of transformation is about the ability to let go and start again, time and again. Self-awareness, a clear vision, courage and a focus on impact are important supporting principles in this process. Understanding how transformation works is essential if the organisation is now, or will soon be, in such a phase. It is important to remember that a true leader does not need to know or do everything themselves. Self-awareness and the vulnerability to organise the right support around you are far more valuable.
Looking inward
It has become clear that the challenges and complexity of our times can no longer be addressed with straightforward approaches. The personal leadership this requires is about the resilience and flexibility of a leader to let go and start again whenever circumstances call for it.
Looking outward
In relation to others, this means that a leader is able to create movement. They know when to accelerate and when to slow down, keeping an eye on results while staying connected to the organisation. With trust in and optimism about the vision and the dream, the leader is able to guide the team and the organisation through transformation towards a new and unknown future.
