Principle 6: Connection
Firmly rooted in personal drivers, self-awareness and a clear vision, true connection enables movement, inspiration and leadership. The principle of connection is about the ability and the need to truly see the other person, and to align this with the vision and the desired results. To do this authentically requires being grounded and having inner strength.
Looking inward
Connection inward means that the leader stands firmly in their convictions and personal drivers, and is able to act from that place. Under pressure, when faced with difficult decisions, the leader can return to their own inner compass. Stress, tension and external triggers can cause a leader to lose connection with themselves. This is why the principles of self-awareness and energy are essential foundations for this principle.
Looking outward
Looking outward, this is about creating safety by truly connecting with others. Skills such as listening to understand (rather than to respond) and postponing judgement are crucial here. Being connected to others does not mean a leader always says yes or is only kind. Precisely because of the safety created through connection, difficult conversations can also take place. There is genuine interest in others, their drivers and their perspectives.
