True Leadership with Barbara Besançon

Where do I stand? Where do I want to go? And how do I get there? Three simple questions we must ask ourselves seriously and regularly. Not as an afterthought, but with full attention. These are the questions today’s major challenges demand of leaders.

Five years ago, in collaboration with Nijenrode, we introduced the concept of ‘True Leadership.’ Leaders who, to varying degrees, possess the qualities to make the world more humane and sustainable. To remain successful in a rapidly changing world. We have adapted this vision to today’s world, and we will continue to do so.

Our vision of leadership in the current world has been translated into 8 principles for true leaders. Values- and purpose-driven leaders who want to make an impact and pass on the world to future generations. Consistent with the belief that leadership is always about self-leadership and leading others, each principle has both an ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ element. True leaders lead themselves and lead others.

The principles follow a sequence and strengthen each other. The foundation is self-awareness. From self-awareness follows a vision, and with courage, energy, and optimism, genuine connections can be made. From there, impact can be created, results achieved, and where necessary, transformation can take shape. In 2025, we will highlight one of the 8 principles of True Leadership each month to inspire real leaders and help them shape their leadership.
