Skilled professionals, with the content as the starting point. Our Tax & Legal discipline is all about providing knowledge solutions and limiting the risks. We develop a career path for lawyers and tax specialists and we map out the full breadth of the market. From lawyers, tax specialists, (candidate) notaries to ‘professional managers for professional firms', supervisors and (General) Legal Counsels.
Tax & Legal
Community
The logical growth of professionals in the Tax & Legal discipline largely depends on knowledge. In the end, the content is more important than the hard sell. The Tax & Legal community is populated by lawyers and tax specialists with comparable career potential. That is how we shape our ambition to be a preferred partner when finding the best professionals to fill key positions. To achieve this, we develop and maintain a long-term relationship with a select group of clients, including the large international firms of lawyers, niche firms, multinationals and several of our partners in the business sector. Our strength lies in our experience in guiding the careers of candidates and in our broad-based knowledge of the market. Sacco van de Velde, Partner: "We're naturally connected to this market. It's all about professional services, an area in which Ebbinge has been active for 25 years. We're accustomed to giving advice."
Career-oriented
Firms of lawyers and notaries, tax consultants. Sacco van de Velde: "At these firms, career paths are very tightly structured. The very best Campus talents often start at one of the large firms. After around three years it becomes clear whether they will develop there or move on to a smaller specialised niche firm, to the business sector or to (semi) government. At every logical moment in a person's career, we try to have a suitable opportunity with one of our clients in reserve. Then it's a question of taking logical steps - even in the direction of senior management. Because we think in terms of careers rather than career steps.
We've known most of the people in our community since they were students. This is a great advantage for our clients, because we operate in a career-oriented rather than a transaction-oriented way. We base our decision on the candidate, and that always produces better candidates." In cooperation with colleagues in other sectors, we link the knowledge of this discipline to knowledge of the market. Sacco: "The advantage is that we operate across the entire breadth of the labour market. And that gives you the perfect interplay between knowledge and competency."
Professional managers for professional firms
In the Professional Services sector there is now a growing trend towards employing more and more "people from outside" to manage firms. As mentioned before, at professional service firms people become managers and partners because they are good professionals and not always because of their management qualities. Often, however, this is not how they want to end up. They have become fascinated with the profession and now they want to excel in it. Recently, for example, we were responsible for appointing a candidate with a financial background as a Board Member at one of the larger legal firms. Those are unusual surroundings for such a person, who has the very specific task of managing the office and the staff but in doing so is also answerable and accountable to the group of partners. Partners who are partners precisely because of their strong opinions. Under the motto ‘Professional Managers for Professional Firms', we connect different worlds. A step like this requires very specific competencies from a specialised manager."
