Supervision & Monitoring

The role of the supervisory director and monitor is changing all the time. Supervision & Monitoring is currently very much in the spotlight due to the increased requirements related to transparency and public accountability. We enable our clients to come into contact with a new group in ‘New Style' Supervision & Monitoring.

‘New style'

This is the group of experienced directors and administrators who are active in all walks of life. In many cases, they are working on a daily basis in the business sector or the public sector, are actively involved in society, and can give a new, active interpretation to their position as a supervisory director or monitor. Our services in ‘New Style' Supervision & Monitoring are unique in terms of its network. Those services are geared to the trend of assessing not only the management on the basis of the organisation's activities. More and more, supervisory directors and auditors are now also being held responsible and publicly called to account. Their role has changed and their new role requires a different approach, input, professional interest and interpretation. Instead of the traditional ‘supervision', the focus now is on active but appropriate involvement in an organisation's activities.

Active role

All of this is a consequence of the increased social demand for transparency and accountability. Partner Paul van Dam: "We notice that clients are looking for change and for support when forming Boards of Supervisory Directors. We bring them in contact with a group of people we know very well. Not so much ‘retired generals' but rather experienced senior managers that often still play an active role in the business world or in the public sector on a daily basis. They have the desire, the ambition and the time to put their professional experience to use more broadly and they understand the new requirements regarding responsibility and liability all too well. They consciously choose to do this."

Expertise and vision of the future

We give our customers access to the network of ‘New Style' Supervisory Directors and Monitors. In some cases, these people are also professionally trained for this task and have followed the Supervision & Monitoring programmes at the Erasmus University or the Business University Nyenrode. In addition to an in-depth knowledge of the content, our extra added value is our experience in executive search for key positions. Paul van Dam: "These processes are even more strategic in nature in the case of Supervision & Monitoring. We organise a clear scan of the organisation, examining the current position, the composition of the current Board of Supervisory Directors or the Supervisory Board. We also look at the phase of development and strategy of the organisation and at other important issues. To a large extent, these determine which role and expertise is required; the desired qualities of the intended supervisory director or monitor. We use this as the starting point for assessing what their contribution must be when supervising the organisation's future aims."

The activities of Supervision & Monitoring extend from Boards of Supervisory Directors in the business sector (regularly including family businesses, organisations in private equity) and monitors in the public sector (e.g. in the health sector, for housing corporations and in the education sector).
